17 Things to do this fall!
Summer is almost over and kids will be back in school soon. Before we know it, fall, Halloween and winter will be upon us. If you are in a cold section of the country such as the North East, Fall is a time when you rush to get things done while trying to get as much enjoyment of the great outdoors before the cold air and the snow drops by. Today we are posting some ideas for activities and things we like to do in the fall that we are sure you would truly enjoy as well. Feel free to share our pin with friends and family or on social media.
Enjoy and please do share your fall activities with us by leaving us comments below or on Facebook @thewroldbestcoffee and twitter @worldbestcoffee.
GO FOR A HAY RIDE AT A FARM AND PICK HALOWEEN PUMPKIN
Going for a hay ride is one of the best thigs to do in early fall especially if you have kids. You get to drive out to a pictures farm seeing the fall foliage and enjoy some of the crisp fall air. This will surly bring back the memories of days gone by when you were a kid. At most farms that offer pumpkins picking they will give you a free hay ride to the pumpkin patch. From there you can pick your own pumpkins, wonder around the farm grounds, and even go horseback or pony riding for the kids. While you are at it take pictures to develop and hang on your wall or to recreate as a beautiful water painting. (see connection start of photographing hobby & learn how to paint at a wine bar below)
Go COFFEE TASTING.
Nothing says fall like a hot cup of coffee, chocolate or cider. To learn more about coffee, coffee quality and growing regions, go to a coffee tasting event in your area. You will learn the best brewing methods and what supplies are needed to start brewing your own cup at home. To find an event in your local area, do a google search for “Coffee Tasting event” or “Coffee cupping near me.” If you decide to go home and make your own, don’t forget to get fresh Whole bean coffee for the best results. (see connection with start a home brewing coffee hobby below)
GO WINE TASTING AT A WINE VINEYARD.
Wine vineyards are one of my favorites because you get out in nature and enjoy some great tasting wine. At such an event you will learn the entire process of wine production. You will learn about the growing process, harvesting, squeezing (if you are lucky you may get your feet dirty squeezing J), aging and blending. You will also learn what wine goes with what protein so next time you have a house party you can select the best wine to go with what you offer your guests. And while you are at it take pictures and connect it with “start of photographing hobby” below.
To find such an event, join a wine tasting group or start your own group or simple search your location for wine tasting event. Most times the Vineyards offer VIP date night testing with dinner out in the open vineyard with candle lights (how romantic).
START A HOME BREWING COFFEE HOBBY.
Fall and winter go hand in hand with a good cup of coffee. However, going to the coffee shop to get your pick me up or warm me up cup maybe time consuming and budget busting. The best option is to brew at home and while you are on the road bring along your left over in a thermos. You will have hot coffee at your fingertips for fall and winter (You can connect this activity to go coffee tasting)
GO FOR A FALL RIVER BOAT CRUSE & DINNER.
River cruises are very relaxing and again another way to get out and enjoy the fall air. There are river cruises that offer dance, comedy, date night dinners, wine testing and many more activities. Don’t forget to take pictures of the river and the beautiful fall foliage along the way and incorporate the pictures you take into the painting hobby, photographing hobby, fall joy ride and leaf peeping below and hiking.
LEAR TO PLAY A INSTRUMENT.
Learning to play an instrument could be a learning experience and recreation and stress reliever for many years to come. To find opportunities in your area do a google search for music lessons.
LEARN TO PAINT A PICTURE AT A PAINT & WINE BAR.
Paint and wine bars are popping up all over the country. They have classes for kids and parents and for audits only. Go way to unwind, have fun and meet new and interesting people. Great place for a first date or if you are single and looking. While you are there get painting supplies to continue your hobby in the winter months. (See connection to painting hobby with Joy Ride and leaf peeping below)
VISIT A LIBRARY OR A BOOKSTORE For READING THE OLD WAY.
Put down that IPAD, kindle or Nook and re-indulge yourself in reading the old way by putting a booklist together and borrowing books from your local library or buy it at your local bookstore. If you are not the type to read novels and short stories, consider books about the stock market, economics, finance, taxes real estate investment. These books will surly motivate and educate you about building a lasting wealth.
VIST A MUSEUM.
Visit a museum and stimulate your mind with art. Visiting a museum can stimulate your mind and get the creative person in you going again. Be inspired to go and create a piece of art for your home or a friend. (see connection with learn to paint a picture at a paint and wine bar)
JOIN A GYM/ EXERCISE FOR NEXT SUMMER/ JOIN An INDOOR KIDS PLAY GYM.
Join a gym in early fall and workout during the winter months. This is a great idea as you will spend most of your time indoors during the winter months. In early fall, some Gyms still has some discounts carried over from their summer slow periods. Take advantage of this by signing up early and start getting in shape for beach weather the coming year.
Parents with kids should also start planning for the kid’s winter activities and look for gyms were kids can play, learn, socialize and burn off some of their energy. If you take this option for your kids don’t forget to bring along one of your books you got from the “Visit the library or a bookstore” activity to keep you occupied.
VISIT A FAIR OR OPEN AIR FOOD MARKET.
Fairs and open air food markets are synonymous with fall. Find one in your location and rediscover your childhood by eating all the fair foods. If you are a parent, this is another good way to connect with your kids by creating memories that will last a life time just as your trip to the fair with your parents have stuck with you.
TAKE UP A PHOTOGRAPHING HOBBY.
In the age of Pinterest, Facebook and tweeter, businesses are in need of great photos to go along with their marketing and daily post. You can capitalize on this by taking up a photographing hobby and take pictures as you enjoy your daily life of running hiking or whatever else you are doing. Monetize this by contributing your collection of photos to sites such as Depositphotos , iStock, Adobe Stock, Shutterstock. When users buy your images you will get royalty from each transaction. Why not earn some money to help with the other hobbies you will take up. (you can get pictures for this hobby from the others we have suggested such as go leaf pepping, go for a fall joyride, go apple picking, go for a hay ride on a farm, go wine tasting at a wine vineyard and hiking)
GO LEAF PEEPING / COUNTRY SIDE JOY RIDE.
Go for a long drive in the crisp fall air while taking in the beautiful and vibrate colors of all the leaves. Take a camera and take a few photos to develop, frame and hang on your wall or better yet make a wonderful painting of it. (See connection to Learn to paint a picture at a paint and wine bar, hiking, photographing hobby and all the other outdoor activities.)
GO APPLE PICKING
Apple cider, apple pie any one? In early fall, apples are abundant and a really good way to enjoy fall is to go and pick your own apples for your apple cider and to make apple pie (yummy). If you have kids, this is another great opportunity to connect with your kids doing something that you did when you were a kid. Call ahead and ask if you can take a picnic basket and have a picnic there in the orchard. Take great pictures if you decide to do the other activities we suggest in the blog.
GO FOR A HIKE
Fall is a great time to go for a hike and enjoy what’s left of the time outdoors. There is nothing like a nature hike in the fall. I would suggest finding a reservoir hiking trial close by you and go for a scenic hike. The mixture of the fresh crisp fall air, the fall foliage and walking next to water is a great way to enjoy fall. Again take some pictures to remember the moment and connect with learn to paint a picture at and photographing hobby.
VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME
Volunteering your time is great all year around. It allows you to connect and give back to your community. Very rewarding.
GET ORGANIZED AND READY FOR FALL AND WINTER HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS.
Make a list of indoor home improvement projects that you can get done in the fall and winter. Go out and get all the supplies to get the job done. Visit the home improvement and craft stores and snatch up sale items that you will need for those projects.
TIED All TOGETHER
Most of the activities suggested are tied together and can lead to yearlong hobbies and activities. In early fall, we suggest starting with things you can still do outdoors while it’s not that cold and the fall colors are vibrant. We suggest taking pictures while you are out and about enjoying the outdoor activities to connect with the indoors activities in Mid to late fall when the weather gets cold. The only exception to this is signing up to a gym early as to take advantage of the summer into fall sale.
When the weather starts to get wet and cold, we suggest going to the museum, go painting at the wine bar, and getting organized for winter projects, coffee tasting and getting the supplies ready for your brewing coffee at home. The others you can do late fall into winter.
Enjoy and HAPPY FALL,!
